(Taking Action Against Graffiti)

The Waikele T.A.A.G. (Taking Action Against Graffiti) Team was formed in April 2004 by WCA General Manager Malcolm Ching. This volunteer group started with five concerned homeowners and a few buckets of paint. Their sole mission was to help clean up the community from unsightly graffiti damage. Within three short years, this group gained recognition as the first fast-response anti-graffiti team in Hawaii. T.A.A.G began making headlines on KITV, KHON, Honolulu Advertiser, Star Bulletin, the Rick Hamada morning radio show, and FM Talk Radio with Senator Fred Hemmings. This team was also presented a Certificate of Appreciation by the Honolulu City Council for their effective efforts against graffiti in the Waipahu community. Today T.A.A.G has over 30 dedicated members that actively clean up graffiti damage on a daily basis. Due to their committed efforts, the Waikele Community Association stands as one of the only graffiti-free planned communities in the state. Neighborhood Security Watch Program

The Neighborhood Security Watch Program is great opportunity for homeowners to become involved within their neighborhood, promote crime prevention awareness and strengthen neighborhood spirit. As a Honolulu Police Department sponsored program, NSW members provide vital information to the police of any crime or suspicious activity witnessed.

NSW members are educated on the following:

  • Operation identification
  • Residential Security Inspections
  • Reporting Suspicious Activities to 911
  • How to describe a suspect

To establish a NSW team in your neighborhood, an initial meeting must be held somewhere convenient for homeowners (neighborhood parking lot, driveway or front yard of a homeowner’s home, or neighborhood park). A Community Policing Officer from the Honolulu Police Department will also be present to discuss rules and requirements of becoming a NSW member as well as additional information on the program. Each neighborhood team will need to establish a neighborhood captain who will act as the leader of the team and as a main point of contact with the Waikele Community Association and HPD.

Established NSW teams in Waikele:

  • Celebrations at Waikele
  • Royal Pines at Waikele
  • Classics at Waikele
  • Sunset Pointe at Waikele (including Hoomaka, Hoomalu, and Golf Club Estates)
  • Highlands at Waikele
  • Fairway Village
  • Highland View Estates
  • Village on the Green

NSW members who are also interested participating in Citizens Patrol should contact their NSW Captain for more information. Citizens Patrol is an extension of the NSW Program, and involves citizens who volunteer their spare time to patrol the neighborhoods they live in. A neighborhood can be patrolled at all hours of the day or night, 7 days a week, with a minimum of 2 people. Volunteers for Citizens Patrol are required to sign a waiver form prepared by HPD and will receive a yellow Citizens Patrol T-shirt, courtesy of the Waikele Community Association.

If you are interested in establishing a NSW team in your neighborhood, or would like to join an existing NSW team, please submit the form below. [READ MORE]

Waikele Green TeamWaikele Ohana. Waikele Community Association - WCA

Founded in 2008, the Green Team is a volunteer group that focuses on community beautification efforts. In order to keep our neighborhood streets and award-winning landscaping beautiful and free of litter, volunteers participate in quarterly cleanup projects to pick up trash and green waste from the roads and common areas. Past projects organized by the WCA include a cleanup of the landscape easements fronting the Waikele Center and Waikele Premium Outlets, in conjunction with T.A.A.G. and NSW volunteers.

Green Team members are dedicated individuals who also frequently pick up litter and debris on their own time. Their assistance has truly made Waikele a cleaner, more beautiful place to live! New members are provided with a Green Team T-shirt, gloves, trash bags, and a trash pick-up tool.

If you are interested in joining the Green Team, please submit the form below.

Waikelecise

Waikelecise is the WCA’s newest volunteer program, formed in May 2011 by General Manager Malcolm Ching. This group is created especially for our many residents who walk, jog and cycle in the community on a daily basis. There are a lot of things that pedestrians notice on property that motorists do not normally see, such as:

  • Water leaking from a sprinkler head
  • Trash on the ground
  • Graffiti
  • Landscaping damage
  • Lifted concrete sidewalks
  • Suspicious individuals or vehicles on property

Waikelecise is based on the idea that everyone doing their small part contributes to making Waikele the BEST and CLEANEST community in the State of Hawaii. There are no meetings to attend and there is nothing to purchase. The only requirement is that you have a desire to take care of YOUR community and do your part to preserve its beauty. Members of Waikelecise take the time to do what is right for the community because they have pride of ownership. They notify the association of concerns instead of turning their backs on problems in the community. Members of Waikelecise are part of the solution.

New members are given a safety green Waikelecise shirt and a Quick Reference Card with helpful information on reporting different problems in the community. If you are interested in becoming a part of this collaborative community effort, please submit the form below.

The Waikele PosseWaikele Ohana. Waikele Community Association - WCA

The Waikele Posse is an email notification system that will allow every Waikele homeowner to receive up-to-date information on suspicious vehicles or crime concerns in our community. Our program is a coordinated effort with the Honolulu Police Department (District 3). Posse members will be able to receive information on suspicious vehicles that may be active in the community or have been linked to burglaries in the area.

How do you join The Waikele Posse?
Simply write and email to posse@waikeleohana.com with your name and email address, and put “Sign me up!” in the subject line.

All members will be sent a blind copy of the security alerts in order to keep everyone`s email address confidential. There are no meetings to attend and no prior experience necessary. The only requirement is that you be a concerned resident with a valid email address. Imagine how criminals will now feel when they have 500 or more Waikele residents on the lookout for their vehicle as soon as they enter the community.

Join The Waikele Posse today and let’s put crime in its place!
